Join us as we discuss Barry Siegel's Dreamers and Schemers: How an Improbable Bid for the 1932 Olympics Transformed Los Angeles from Dusty Outpost to Global Metropolis. Siegel follows the story of "Prince of Realtors" Billy Garland, his role in early LA boosterism and his successful campaign to host the Olympics in the rising metropolis. In Dreamers and Schemers, we will see how Los Angeles transformed in the midst of the early 20th century, and how World War I, Prohibition, and the Great Depression intersected with our early history.

(It's not necessary to read Dreamers and Schemers prior to the event, but it will be helpful to participate in the discussion)
